Development notes / no releases
Built, measured,
not yet released.
What the unreleased development build does today, and what still stands between it and a release.
In the development build
- Open comma, semicolon, tab or pipe separated files and Excel (.xlsx) sheets as plain text, in a chosen encoding (UTF-8, UTF-16, Windows-1252, ISO-8859-1); an open sheet shows the first rows before you start.
- Fixes per column: trim spaces, find and replace, letter case, required values and value checks; remove blank and duplicate rows; choose, rename, order, join and split the saved copy’s columns.
- A three-pane window: your steps and columns on the left, the table in the middle, the selected column’s fixes on the right, with save options in a sheet. Light and dark.
- Find, filter and sort the whole file; find and replace with plain text or patterns from the same find bar; edit a single value; remove duplicates by key columns; leave rows that fail checks out into problem-rows.json.
- Review every change before saving; each save goes into a new folder with a manifest.
- Saved steps: one action to save them, one to use them, with a full review and a confirmation on every reuse. Steps can be saved while a check still flags rows, since they hold no rows.
- Built-in help: a searchable window with a topic for each feature and the keyboard shortcuts, opened from the Help menu (⌘? on a Mac, F1 on Windows and Linux), the … menu or the status bar. It works offline.
- Menus: File › Open… (⌘O on a Mac, Ctrl+O on Windows and Linux), zoom under View, and Help with About Prooftable.
- Development builds for Windows 11 and Ubuntu Linux (Wayland and X11) as well as macOS, each checked on real machines with the same device test. Supported versions are still to be measured.
- Keyboard and screen-reader pass, light and dark appearance, zoom.
- Measured on one development Mac with synthetic files up to 16 MiB.
